National Disability Independence Day

Fireworks may have just faded, and the barbecues are still smoldering, but the spirit of independence is far from over. While we celebrate the United States' independence on July 4th, let's not forget another vital day for equality just around the corner: National Disability Independence Day, observed on July 26th.

National Disability Independence Day commemorates President George H.W. Bush's 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Often referred to as the Bill of Rights for Americans with Disabilities, the ADA stands as the nation's most comprehensive law prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. It safeguards their access to employment, housing, transportation, and participation in government programs and services, thereby ensuring equal economic and civic opportunities.
