Content marketers churn out a lot of content, striving to balance originality and brand consistency while adhering to the organization's style guide. Content creation has many moving parts, but Custom Policies can make that process easier.
I took advantage of DubBot's Custom Policies feature just a few weeks ago. Like most organizations, DubBot has a writing style guide I lean on when creating blog content. But running a manual "compare and contrast" wasn't efficient or error-proof.
So, with the DubBot style guide open in one tab and the DubBot application in another, I took to the task of creating Custom Policies to improve productivity and stick to application naming conventions and terminology.
Take the term kebab menu, for example, which is more commonly known as a "3 dot" menu. The rule in the DubBot style guide is to use the kebab menu. After writing a Custom Policy to check for this, I re-scanned the DubBlog website and found I had used the term "3-dot menu" in several blog posts. I was quick to make the corrections, republish the page, and continue with my day.
I think of Custom Policies as my personalized cheat sheet. They keep me focused on the subject matter and creating an accessible page structure for the blog post, and they prevent me from going down a rabbit hole of checking and rechecking DubBot-specific terminology or proper word use.
Make sure all of your content creators, not just your website editors, regularly review your organization's style guide and invite their input into creating Custom Policies. This will empower everyone to create consistent, brand-aligned content.
