Accessibility Checklist Update: Now Includes WCAG 2.2

In 2022, we introduced the Beginner's Guide for Manual and Automated Accessibility Testing, which was developed by our team of accessibility specialists. When the checklist was published, it covered every success criterion included in the WCAG 2.1, how the content could be tested (manual or automated), relevant content to audit, and additional comments and notes DubBot’s accessibility specialists thought would be useful information.

To help you continue to test and locate accessibility issues on your website successfully, our team has updated the Beginner's Guide for Manual and Automated Accessibility Testing to include WCAG 2.2 and testing tips for these new requirements. (Request access here.)

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 includes nine new success criteria that focus on user interaction with content:

  • 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) Level AA
  • 2.4.12 Focus Not Obscured (Enhanced) Level AAA
  • 2.4.13 Focus Appearance Level AAA
  • 2.5.7 Dragging Movements Level AA
  • 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) Level AA
  • 3.2.6 Consistent Help Level A
  • 3.3.7 Redundant Entry Level A
  • 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum) Level AA
  • 3.3.9 Accessible Authentication (Enhanced) Level AAA

Several of these nine new success criteria can only be tested manually. Worth noting is that some WCAG 2.2 criteria have to do with cognitive abilities, which is challenging to simulate in an automated environment. Other WCAG 2.2 criteria can be tested using an automated tool like DubBot. But don't forget - it's not "automated vs. manual" testing. It's "automated AND manual" testing.

In the updated Beginner's Guide for Manual and Automated Accessibility Testing, our team again includes how content can be tested and what content to test to provide you with the most accurate and actionable findings.

If you have version one of this important checklist, now's the time to update. If you are new to DubBot's checklist, be sure to get your copy and add it to your accessibility testing toolkit.
