WCAG 2.2 is Live!

W3C 2.2

WCAG 2.2 is here!

Today, October 5, 2023, WCAG 2.2 is officially live! We have been following the evolution of this update closely, and we are excited to see the final version of these guidelines, which include nine new Success Criteria:

  • Guideline 2.4 Navigable
    • 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) (AA)
    • 2.4.12 Focus Not Obscured (Enhanced) (AAA)
    • 2.4.13 Focus Appearance (AAA)
  • Guideline 2.5 Input Modalities
    • 2.5.7 Dragging Movements (AA)
    • 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) (AA)
  • Guideline 3.2 Predictable
    • 3.2.6 Consistent Help (A)
  • Guideline 3.3 Input Assistance
    • 3.3.7 Redundant Entry (A)
    • 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum) (AA)
    • 3.3.9 Accessible Authentication (Enhanced) (AAA)

All Success Criteria from WCAG 2.1 will remain the same, except for the Parsing, which has been removed.

Back in July of this year, Penny Kronz discussed WCAG 2.2 at the Higher Education Web Professionals Association (HighEdWeb) 2023 Accessibility Summit, detailing all of the potential changes that were being considered at the time.

Look for us at the HEWeb23# Annual Conference in Buffalo beginning Monday, October 9, where we will chat with other industry leaders about the release of WCAG 2.2 and what it means for Web Accessibility!
