3 Things - Tuesday, October 3

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This is a time to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and to work towards creating a more inclusive workforce. By raising awareness of employment barriers and promoting inclusive hiring practices, we can create a workforce that is truly representative of our society. Here are 3 things you can do:

  1. Celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities.
Workers with disabilities play an important role in the economy and society. They are just as skilled and capable as workers without disabilities and often bring unique perspectives and experiences to the workplace.  "I Can"—the Campaign for Disability Employment

  2. Raise awareness of employment barriers.
People with disabilities face many employment barriers, such as discrimination, lack of accessible transportation, and difficulty finding affordable housing. NDEAM is a time to raise awareness of these barriers and to work towards creating a more inclusive workforce. The Job Accommodation Network - Practical Solutions, Workplace Success

  3. Promote inclusive hiring practices.
Employers can play a vital role in promoting inclusive hiring practices. This includes making accommodations for workers with disabilities, providing training on disability awareness, and creating a workplace culture that is welcoming and supportive of all employees.  Educate Your Employees
