3 Things - Tuesday, July 4

The  World Para Athletics Championships begins July 8 in Paris, France. Here are 3 things about this popular Paralympic sport.

  1. World Para Athletics
"Para athletics is the biggest sport within the Paralympic Movement in terms of the number of participating athletes and countries. It was one of eight sports included in the first Paralympic Games in Rome, Italy, in 1960 and has remained on the programme ever since, consistently attracting the biggest crowds and TV audiences."

  2. Origin of Disabled Athletics
"One of the most popular Paralympic sports, disabled athletics was one of the first sports to be included in the program of the Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960. This discipline brings together the largest number of athletes and events: track races with the exception of hurdle races, jumps with the exception of the pole, throws with the exception of the hammer, and finally, non-stadium races from 10km to marathon via trail and cross-country."

  3. The Essential
