Starting a Content Inventory

Some of the first questions that we ask someone thinking about using DubBot are:

  • How many pages does your website have?
  • How many digital assets like PDFs and Word docs does it have?

You may or may not be surprised to hear that most people don’t know the answers to these questions. If you don’t know the answers to these questions for your website, it’s okay. In my experience, you likely have a lot more content than you think.

Repeat after me “It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault……(hugging you) it’s not your fault!

Of course, DubBot would be glad to help you get answers to these questions.

An easy way to get a ballpark idea is to do a site search of your site, using Google. To do this, do a search, starting with ‘site:’ followed by your site, with no spaces. This is an example of using Google to get an estimated count of content using DubBot’s own website.

Another tool that I’ve used is Screaming Frog’s SEO Spider Tool. They have free and paid version of this desktop tool. The free version is plenty unless you plan to continue using the tool after your initial audit. The following is a screenshot after spidering our own website.
